FORMER SWAN MARKER
Michael Turk, former Swan Marker and Bargemaster to the Vintners' Company and Queen's Waterman, recently died aged 78. His full obituary, published in the Telegraph, may be read HERE.

During his lifetime, Michael made a significant contribution to the running the 300 year old family business, originally established in 1710 by Richard Turk (Turks Launches Ltd) The Company specialised in boat building and still operates a fleet of passenger vessels. Michael's son, Richard Daniel Turk, now runs the Company which is based in Kingston Upon Thames.
Michael served his National Service with the Royal Marines during which time he passed selection for the Special Boat Service (formerly Special Boat Squadron)
He was also involved in a number of film and TV productions where he advised and assisted in marine related activities. His film credits may be viewed HERE
In 1996 Michael Turk built 'Grand Turk' a replica 3 masted wooden frigate inspired by HMS Blandford (1741) The ship was built in Marmaris, Turkey and was used in ITV's 'Hornblower' series (1998). She went on to appear in 'Longitude' (2000), 'Monsieur N.' (2003), 'To the Ends of the Earth' (2005), 'Crusoe' (2008) and 'Michiel de Ruyter' (2015).

In 2010 Grand Turk was purchased by the French Company, Étoile Marine Croisières, based at St Malo, Brittany and has since been renamed Étoile du Roy ("King's Star"). She now serves mainly as a training vessel.

SUPPORT TEAM BACCHUS
Liveryman Peter Richards MW, together with his team of Internationally recognised wine professionals, are running the Bacchus Half Marathon in aid of the Vintners' Foundation and in memory of Past Master Michael Cox.
The race takes place at Denbies Wine Estate on Sunday 13 September.
ROYAL TANK REGIMENT VISIT

A handful of places remain for this event
Whilst the final schedule has still to be confirmed, this visit to the RTR will incorporate an opportunity to see Challenger tanks live firing at Lulworth Cove ranges (MAP) with a chance to get some 'hands on' experience' in simulators. Lunch will be provided in the Officers' Mess and there will be a visit to the Tank Museum at Bovington. All participants are required to make their own travel arrangements.
Please note, start time is likely to be between 09:30 and 10:00 hrs.

WINE MERCHANT SUPPORT REQUIRED
THE SPITALFIELDS CRYPT TRUST PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION
SPT is one of the nominated charities supported by the Vintners' Foundation.
As part of the celebrations to recognise their 50th year they will be hosting a portrait exhibition showing new work by celebrated musicphotographer Lawrence Watson. It captures images of people in SPT's recovery community in Shoreditch, alongside pictures of local personalities and celebrities whose lives are touched by addiction.
SPT are looking for a Wine Merchant to support the eventby providing the wine at the the official opening of the exhibition on Wednesday 4 November in Hanbury Street, London.
A Vintners’ Foundation supported mental health charity for stressed-out City workers.
Come and find out over a light supper and a glass of wine how your contributions via the VF can make a real difference to the lives of young City workers suffering a variety of personality disorders resulting in chronic depression, anxiety, and workplace relationship failures, and often dependency on drink and drugs.
In appreciation of the financial backing the Vintners’ Foundation has provided, which has enabled CPT to open a second counselling unit at St James Garlickhythe, founder Dr Agnes Sullivan, and co-director Lisa Shortt are hosting a presentation of the invaluable work they do at their base at The Bishop’s Palace, Bishops Avenue, SW6 6EE on Tuesday 13th October at 6.30pm. Glenn Roberts and Kimberly Page were married on Friday 31 July 2015. Their wedding took place at 'The Mulberry Tree', Hermitage Lane, Boughton Monchelsea, Kent, followed by an evening garden party at home.
SEA CADETS SET TO GET MUDDY!
The Vintners' Company has, for a long time, maintained close relations with the Wandsworth Sea Cadets.
Two of their Petty Officers, Jessica Keating and Freddie Pedgrum, are undertaking the 'Tough Mudder' challenge at the end of September to help fundraise for the Unit. The YouTube video below (from 2014) gives you an idea of what this challenge involves.
