Vintners’ Company Covid 19 Appeal – City Harvest

Update: This appeal is now closed

The appeal has raised over £33,000.00 for City Harvest. Thank you to all our members for their wonderful support

As part of the Vintners’ Company’s Covid 19 Appeal, we are asking members of the Company to consider making a donation to City Harvest, specifically to support their work in the boroughs of Southwark, Hackney, Tower Hamlets and Newham. These are some of the boroughs closest to our Hall, and some of the London boroughs most in need.

The COVID-19 crisis is having a profound impact on how we all live our lives at the moment.

It’s totally understandable that, for many of us, getting through each day seems a huge challenge. Yet there’s a section of society that struggles to get a decent meal – or any meal – each day, in good times or bad.  So many people routinely rely on homeless shelters, soup kitchens and, increasingly, community food banks. And in this time of disruption and uncertainty, their need is greater than ever and is so easily overlooked.

The Vintners’ Foundation committee feels strongly that we, as a Company, should do whatever we can to alleviate the hardship suffered in our local City boroughs.  Whilst we donate to many charities all year round, we would like to do something specific right now, and we’re asking for your support.

City Harvest is a small and well run charity that collects good quality surplus food from supermarkets, wholesalers, restaurants, caterers and specialist food stores that would otherwise go to waste. Using its network of vans and drivers, they sort, store and redistribute it to the organisations mentioned above to enable them to continue their vital work.
