Visit to London Youth Rowing

Swan Warden Richard Wilson and Immediate Past Master Ann Hill had the pleasure to make a special visit to London Youth Rowing today to meet with Kieran Langridge who leads the excellent alternative provisions scheme that seeks to improve the life skills of young Londoners who have been excluded from mainstream schools by bringing them on the water.

The Vintners’ Foundation provides funding for their work with pupils from years 7-11 at Alternative Provisions schools in London. Involvement in the ‘London Youth Rowing on water experience’ has been instrumental in helping to achieve a success rate of 95% of pupils returning to mainstream education through coaching and mentorship.

It was a joy to meet the young people experiencing their time ‘afloat’ at Olympic Park– each of them real characters with a lot to offer. As an ex-rower the Swan Warden got stuck in, showing off his paddling skills and very much enjoyed being among the team.
