A History of the Vintners’ Company

Wine has been imported into Britain via London since the Roman times. At some point now lost to history, wine traders based in the City formed themselves into a group to promote themselves and their trade, coalescing in an area of the City that accordingly became known as the Vintry. This group became formalised, establishing themselves as the Vintners' Company and acquiring a hall in Vintry Ward, where they remain to this day.
